Cheryl Weaver

Cheryl began volunteer work with children in 1982 and has experience working with Youth in the Quesnel School District as a Youth Care Worker, Student Support Worker, and Teacher-on-call. Cheryl has also actively worked in a variety of capacities in community social work since 1992 including positions such as Aids Prevention/Needle Exchange Outreach Worker, Youth Care Worker, Support Worker, Counsellor and Group Facilitator for women and children who have survived abusive relationships, Case Manager for the homeless, Aboriginal Liaison in the health care context and Family Outreach Counsellor. She has a passion working with marginalized groups.

Cheryl works collaboratively with clients thus facilitating self-empowerment. Her work has included a strong emphasis on crisis intervention, addictions, conflict resolution, problem solving, anger management, coping with grief and loss, and meaning-making. Cheryl believes strongly in and works from a holistic, culturally safe, strength based, harm reduction philosophy.

Life transformation can occur one step at a time; building on our strengths; minimizing harm, and exploring new possibilities in a safe counseling relationship. Cheryl's current practice involves working with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a variety of life difficulties.

Cheryl is currently completing her Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Psychology, from Thompson Rivers University. She expects to be enrolled in the Master of Counselling Program at Athabasca University by March 2011.
